From Awareness to Action Ongoing awareness and training programs for environmental preservation and biodiversity being conducted by ACEN’s wind farms, North Luzon Renewables and North Wind, empower the locals to become stewards of the Conservation Estate in Ilocos Norte. In 2020, over 13 turtles were rescued and released into the sea, 18 turtle nests have been recorded and monitored, 240 eggs were managed with a hatching rate of 74% , with over 398 eggs being monitored.
Integrated Approach to Turtle Conservation
NorthWind and North Luzon Renewables recently partnered with the Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines (MWWP), an organization advocating for the conservation and protection of marine-wildlife and their habitats, to create a Pawikan Conservation Action Plan that will now serve as a framework for the company, its partners and stakeholders in the roll out of an enhanced turtle conservation program. Guidelines on threat management and resource protection, and an assessment on current capacities of the local communities will be formulated for MWWP to able to design appropriate training programs and workshops for a fortified program.
